They spent half of the BfZ plotline basically explaining how a whole continent was decimated, and Nissa is still mentioning in the Kaladesh plotline the emotional effects of that. The idea that there's no long-lasting consequence is silly though. And one of the last 'happy ending' planes we had in Avacyn Restored quickly got wrecked.
